About Digital Signature Certificate

Digital Signature Certificate is know as DSC in the general. A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a protected digital key that verifies the identity of the holder, served by a Certifying Authority (CA). It normally includes your identity (name, country, email, APNIC account name and your public key). Digital Certificates apply Public Key Infrastructure signifying data that has been signed digitally or encrypted by a private key can be decrypted only by its related public key.

In other words A Digital Signature Certificate, like hand written signature, establishes the identity of the sender filing the documents through internet which sender can not revoke or deny. A Digital Signature Certificate is not only a digital equivalent of a hand written signature it adds extra data electronically to any message or a document where it is used to make it more authentic and more secured. Digital Signature ensures that no tampering of data is done once the document has been digitally signed. A DSC is normally valid for 1 , 2 & 3 years, after that renewal is required.


Class 2 Digital Signature Certificate

Class 2 Digital Signatures are used to verify the identity of a person against a pre-verified database. This type of Digital Signature is used for efiling of documents with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), GST and the Income Tax Department. Class 2 Digital Signatures are issued to a person on a USB token after verifying self-attested copies of identity/address proof and eKYC process completion. It is Class 2 DSC tokens that are used for company registration, LLP registration, IT return filing, GST registration, GST return filing, MCA annual return filing and IE code registration.

e-Filling with Digital Signature Certificate is mandatory for companies under MCA 21 program of The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). The subscribers have to acquire RCAI Class 2 Digital Signature Certificates for Director Identification Number DIN also. All authorized signatories must have Class 2 Digital Signature Certificate. In India most of the e-Filling is done through Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), CWA and Tax Consultants and Advocates.
